After a successful “PEAT on the Street”, it’s time for “PEAT on the Screen!”
PEAT is hitting the screens and putting on the following series of FREE environmental film and documentary showings all across Purbeck in May and June as part of Purbeck Aware:-
- Thursday 21st May – 7pm – A Crude Awakening – At the Square and Compass, Worth Matravers. Guest Speaker Louise Robinson (see bottom of page for photos)
- Thursday 4th June – 7pm – A Message In The Waves, At Studland Study Centre, Knoll Beach. Guest Speaker Steve Trewhella
- Saturday 6th June – 7 pm – Power of Community – At Corfe Castle Village Hall. Guest speaker Andy McKee
- Thursday 11th June – 7pm – The 11th Hour (Narrated by Leonardo Di Caprio) – At The Rex cinema, Wareham. Guest speaker Mark Constantine
PEAT decided to follow the Transition model earlier this year and we’re in the early stages of getting Transition Purbeck off it’s feet. Transition Purbeck joins other Transition initiatives locally and worldwide. The main aim of the Transition initiative is for local communities to become sustainable and self-sufficient. The first step on this exciting and necessary journey is to raise awareness of peak oil and the cause and effect of climate change on a local and global level.
The main aim of the film screenings is to give people the opportunity to learn more about climate change and peak oil, and most importantly what we can do about it together, in a fun and friendly atmosphere. There will be guest speakers before each showing, these include Steve Trewhella who is local to Purbeck and is an outstanding marine photographer and an expert on marine waste and Mark Constantine who, with his wife, founded Lush Cosmetics. Lush is still based in Poole and is experiencing massive success globally with its natural ingredients, no animal testing policy and packaging avoided where possible.
There will also be the chance to speak to members of PEAT afterwards, to find some answers to those tricky questions and to discuss local and global issues in a welcoming and relaxed space. Come along, bring your friends and family and enjoy.
There is no need to book for any of the film screenings but please be aware that places are limited so arrive early to avoid disappointment. For more details please contact Louise Robinson on 01929 557286 or email LouiseRobinson@purbeck-dc.gov.uk or contact Collette Drayson on 01929 422832, email cdrayson@tiscali.co.uk.
