Greetings one and all….
The PEAT Energy group is all about helping the transition by ecouraging both a reduction in energy use and the local production of renewable, sustainable, low-carbon energy.
At the moment we are at the stage of raising awareness; campaigns and talks.
The near future will consist of talks about energy use in the home and the new ‘green energy cash-back schemes’ to the public, Parish Councils, unsuspecting passers-by and pretty much anyone who will listen.
We have talked at the West Lulworth parish meeting, the Purbeck area DAPTC, Wareham Town Council, and briefly introduced ourselves at most of Purbeck’s Parish and Town Councils. Our first public talk was held at Wareham Town Hall on the 10th March 2010. About 30 people came along, most seemed enthused by renewable energy, and all were enthused by the cakes on offer.
If anyone wants a talk about energy in any form (or the LHC), just get in contact with derek [at] ecofirstconsult (dot) co {dot} uk. We can come along and contribute to any event already planned, or sort something out from fresh.
Longer-term, we aim to actually start doing stuff. Ideas are fairly nebulous at the moment, but domestic energy surgeries and some form of mapping of the area for renewable energy potential seem like good things to start with. Maybe some community energy schemes?
We haven’t got a formal meeting/communication structure going yet - we just take over the main PEAT meeting by shouting louder than anyone else. Once we sort this out, there will be regular PEAT Energy mailings and meetings. If you want to be included, email me, or come and talk to me at one of the meetings (I’ll be the one with the short hair and being the not-quite-the-tallest-one probably talking to the tallest one).
Upcoming Events:
Sometime in the next month, we’ll have a meeting to contribute to the Dorset Carbon Reduction Action Plan. I am talking to DCC, and once we have more details, I arrange a place/time to chat (likely to be a Tuesday/Wednesday evening in a pub somewhere in Wareham).
After that, we’ll do a open day to let people into houses/buildings with renewable energy systems. This was initially planned to be July 10th, but due to a litany of incompetence on my part, this is going to have to be dealayed until September. More details to follow in meetings and via email.
Foody James seems to have been a bit formal on his tab, and set out action points, so here goes:
Will - Take all the flak for actually doing something
Tim - Stop being so busy and turn up for a meeting
Derek - Magic up a stable tokomak capable of generating around 200GW
Derek - Get back to work
